Bio-catalysts are powerful and important tools in many different fields. However, challenges arise when native enzymes cannot adapt to the harsh industrial conditions. Although engineering strategies have been developed to solve these problems, they significantly increase the cost. As a result, many large-scale syntheses still require robust enzymes. This leads to an increased demand for identification and characterisation of diverse enzyme sets from selected protein families.

In this talk, I will describe the workflow designed to match metagenomic-based enzymes with the most suitable process and working conditions. I will discuss the work done so far and the possible next steps.
